The brand identity design process

In a nutshell, we will work together to discover what your business is and where you see it in the future. From here I can create the perfect brand identity for you.

Oakfold branding design process

1. Contact & Proposal

After you contact me I will be in touch to discuss your brand identity design project and to get a basic understanding of your needs and the timeframe. I will then prepare a proposal and contract. Once approved, a 50% deposit will be requested in order to start your project. The remainder of the invoice is due once the work is completed and approved.

If you need a different payment plan, options can be discussed.

2. Discovery

This is the most crucial part of the process, a great brand identity comes from great research.

Together we will delve into what your business is, why you do it, what your core values are, who your ideal clients are, who your competitors are and what your future goals are. We can do this as a questionnaire or by voice/video call.

With this information I can prepare an ideas board showing inspiration images, colours and typography. The aim of this stage is to find the general direction and style of your brand and to ensure we are on the same page.

3. Concepts

Now the planning is in place, the creative work can begin. I’ll prepare concept options presented in PDF format, distilled and refined using the information we found in discovery.

4. Refinement

Here’s where you choose the best concept option, if needed, we amend and refine the design.

The revision process:

  1. I will submit draft artwork for approval
  2. You review draft artwork and prepare feedback
  3. You send all feedback
  4. I will review and confirm amendment requests, revisions are made to the design
  5. Amended artwork is submitted to the you for approval

It is always best to give feedback in written notes. This will help to give clarity and ensure amendments are not missed.

Once a new version of the design is submitted using the amendment requests, this is the end of a revision.

Typically, a project’s scope includes three rounds of revisions but more rounds are available and will be invoiced at an hourly rate.

5. Delivery

We did it! Your new brand identity is finished, approved and ready to show the world.

It’s time to pay the rest of your invoice while I package up your brand identity artwork assets including; logo sets and all the filetypes you will need for digital and print. If your package includes a brand guide, you have a comprehensive reference to keep you on brand going forward. If you need advice or support on any printed materials, I am here to help.
